Why Warren Averett?
Because Your Next Move Matters.
What You’ll Actually Do as a Warren Averett Intern
Any firm will tell you that their internships and positions for new associates offer “experience” and “networking.” But what does that actually look like on a Tuesday afternoon in the office?
At Warren Averett, you’ll contribute to actual client work (not busywork) alongside experienced accounting professionals. You’ll apply what you’ve learned in your college classes and start building real skills you can use in future roles while you learn the “why” behind the work.
Examples of work you may do at Warren Averett include:
- Preparing portions of individual and business tax returns using firm software
- Assisting with audit procedures such as testing account balances, reconciling schedules and reviewing supporting documentation
- Working with client data to help build reports, workpapers or deliverables used by the engagement team
- Sitting in on client meetings or internal planning discussions to understand how projects move from start to finish
You’re not expected to already know how to do everything, and you won’t be left to figure everything out on your own. We support our interns and associates by making sure:
- You know who to go to with questions. (You’ll be part of a team that checks work, explains next steps and helps you create good habits early that will help you be successful in the long term.)
- Expectations are spelled out. (Before starting a task, someone will walk you through what “done” looks like and why it matters to the client.)
- Feedback happens consistently. (For interns, you’ll hear what you’re doing well and where you can improve throughout the internship, not just at the end of it, so each project makes the next one easier.)
- Onboarding is structured. (Your first days focus on systems, tools and workflows so you’re not guessing how things work.)
“
I feel incredibly thankful for the people who have poured into me, encouraged me and supported me along the way. This season has taught me so much—not only about tax and the profession, but also about what it means to be a good coworker, a supportive friend, and a developing leader.
“
