The Mechanical Drafter (Piping) position works with/assists the Lead Plant Designer with Capital and O&M budget projects. This position will be responsible for creating and maintaining detail piping drawings in CADWorx Pipe 3D drawing environment for Compressor stations, Measurement stations and pipeline appurtenances for natural gas facilities. Assigned projects will vary in size and complexity. Work will include both independent projects and projects working with a multi-discipline team including Project Managers, Design Engineers, and Drafters.

Duties and Responsibilities to include the following:

  • Managing multiple redline request daily for PSM facilities.
  • Managing drawings within our document management system.
  • Completing as-built projects and construction projects.
  • Complete field requests and assist pulling drawings for projects.
  • Attend team meetings
  • Complete other duties as assigned
  • Assist the Lead Plant Designer with all types of Capital Maintenance and As Built projects
  • Ensure quality reviews of all drawings and drawing packages before submitting to the Lead Plant Designer for issuance.
  • Attend Project Managers Conference calls or Project Kickoff meetings when invited by the Lead Plant Designer or Supervisor.
  • Help to develop completed drawing packages for IFA (Issued for Approval), IFB (Issued for Bid) and IFC (Issued for Construction) in accordance with the KM standard drawing format.
  • Develop drawings of various types: Plot plans, Piping Models, Piping Plans, Pipe Details, orthographic, isometric, etc.
  • Utilize raster editing software.
  • Use the latest version of AutoCAD and CADWorx.
  • Understand material nomenclature / specification, symbology, P&ID, Piping, Structural, etc.
  • Able to work with Company document management system (Blue Cielo Meridian system) or equivalent DM systems.
  • Provide field sketches for piping design.
  • Work with x-ref supported drawing files.
  • Work as a team player with the Lead Plant Designer, Project Manager, Design Engineer and the Design team to establish various types of Construction Drawing Packages.
  • Select material for pipe and components to meet established design pressure.
  • Understand adequate spacing requirements for equipment and piping layout.
  • Understand the function of measurement and compression equipment and process piping.
  • Ability to incorporate terminology and acronyms of the natural gas industry into drawings and related work outputs.
  • Occasionally help out with P&ID redlines.
  • Ability to work on both As-built projects and Construction Projects Simultaneously.

Position Requirements and Skills:

  • Associates degree or the following equivalent experience required. A minimum of two to five (2 to 5 yrs.) experience in plant/process piping.
  • Knowledge of P&ID symbols and terminology a must.
  • Knowledge and experience using Windows operating systems.
  • 3D modeling experience required utilizing CADWorx Plant or AutoCAD plant 3D.
  • Must have good communication skills, written & verbal, work with minimal supervision, and simultaneously manage multiple projects to meet scheduled deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills are required, as well as the ability to prioritize work.
  • Previous experience in the natural gas transmission industry is preferred.
  • Familiarity with reinforced concrete and structural steel detail drawings is a plus.
  • Overtime occasionally may be required and expected as project deadlines require.
  • Must be Punctual and Dependable with the ability to listen and learn.
