Controller (Florence, AL / Southeast U.S. Remote)

Warren Averett Staffing and Recruiting is seeking an experienced Controller for a growing client in Florence, AL.  Our ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in accounting leadership, a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, and experience with small privately-owned companies that have multiple entities with intercompany transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Accounting Function for a corporate office.  This will include:
    • Manage multiple entities financial records
    • Creation and maintenance of annual budget, monthly and annual financial statements, account reconciliations, monthly close process and key performance indicators
  • Coordinate with management to prepare for monthly financial and operation review by performing weekly variance analysis
    • Create ad hoc reports to show success rates on business development, salary expense, operating expenses, etc…
    • Develop profit centers for various business lines
    • Accurately report Percentage of Completion accounting on projects
  • Maintain an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results
    • Responsible for cash management and risk management for multiple entities
    • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
    • Supervise/process payroll in a timely manner
    • Ensure that bank reconciliations are completed, timely
    • Provide financial analyses, monthly, to ensure all obligations are accounted for
  • Coordinate with external CPA group for compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Oversee the company’s insurance, 401k, and IT functions
  • Define and document processes and procedures to promote uniform reporting
  • Perform additional research and special projects as needed

Requirements

  • BS in Accounting, CPA preferred
  • 10+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • Experience with multiple entities that have intercompany transactions is required
  • Highly preferred experience in either Construction (Percentage of Completion) or Lending industry
  • Peachtree software experience is a plus or other relevant percent of complete construction software such as Timberline
